It's a shame that lot's of people are wasting all the trasfomative potential of their LoRa hardware. By hosting some half working prepping firmware on them. This should be fixed by writing reticulum interfaces that pipe into public Meshcore / Meshtastic channels. So that hardware is used for something sensible.

Reply: While it's a fun idea, and such custom interfaces modules do exist, the problem is really that those firmwares are mostly quite inefficient in how they handle spectrum access and congestion. They take lots of shortcuts, and as a result waste immense amounts of precious bandwidth. Couple that with really bad medium access implementations, and nodes are just stepping over each other's transmissions, endlessly repeating the same data, and generally just making the spectrum useless for everyone. Unfortunately, there's only really one way to fix that, and that's to either fix the firmwares in question, or install something else on the devices.

Reply: Yup, this was just supposed to be a joke about trolling the users of such firmwares into hosting rnodes. On a more serious note though; it would be really nice to convice those people to host rnodes instead. But how? Is sideband + ble rnode not plug and play enough?

Reply: Yeah, it was a weird experience for sure to see them launch meshcore as a profit-driven youtube hype machine, which basically scissored their entire packet transport concept directly from Reticulum, no credit given, while managing to completely fuck up the implementation by leaving out very important cryptographic safeguards, and then as a "thanks" (I guess) delivering a blog post from the main developer underhandedly berating Reticulum for all kinds of fantasy issues that meshcore apparently had "solved". Guess the point was to make it look like they had invented the "next generation" or something. Lol, wtf man.
Got a bit curious and read their entire firmware source code. Found three exploits in about 45 minutes, one of them allowing you to completely hijack all routes on the mesh with very little packet capture time (about 20 minutes, as far as I remember) from a single, modified node. Beautiful stuff man. That was the most fragile piece of shit I have ever seen.
At that point, I was like, yeah - someones gonna have a field day with this at some point, fuck if I care. I'm not going to waste my time writing security advisories for people like that.
Has it been fixed? I have no clue, never looked at their stuff since then. I'd guess not - since it was basically so deep in their code's assumptions that it would break the protocol to fix it.
